Walking the Larapinta Trail is more than just putting one foot in front of the other – it’s about forward motion, new ground, and discovering what lies beyond each bend.

That’s why we’ve created a journey that moves with the trail. Rather than returning to a single camp each night, our trekkers experience three of our four purpose-built Eco-Comfort Camps, thoughtfully placed along different sections of the trail.

Each camp is inspired by someone who played a role in shaping this walk – from bold visionaries and design pioneers to groundbreakers of Australian adventure. These aren’t just places to sleep – they’re part of the trail’s living story.

Beyond offering a more seamless, immersive walking experience, here’s why staying at different camps across the trail is far more rewarding than circling back to the same one.

1. You wake up to a new landscape

Every night brings a new perspective. From open ridgelines to tucked-away gorges, each camp reveals a different facet of Tjoritja / the West MacDonnell Ranges. Your view from the tent? Never the same twice.

2. More time walking, less time in a vehicle

On many tours, you’ll return to the same place each night. That means vehicle transfers – often after a long day of walking. We move forward with the trail, so your energy goes into the walking, not the logistics.

3. The trail flows naturally

Repetitive routes and backtracking can take you out of the moment. Our itinerary follows the Larapinta’s natural rhythm – unfolding westward day by day, with no doubling back or out-and-back loops.

4. Your journey is shaped by those who built it

Every Eco-Comfort Camp tells a story. These are more than just names – they honour people who played an important part in building the trail or expanding what adventure can look like in Australia.

Across the Classic Larapinta Trek, you’ll stay in three of the following four camps:

• Charlie – named for Charlie Holmes, who was instrumental in establishing our trail access and logistics
• Nick – inspired by architect Nick Murcutt, who designed the camps to harmonise with the desert environment
• Fearless – in tribute to Sue Fear, the first Australian-born woman to summit Everest
• Sonder – honouring both the nearby summit and the Arrernte stories it carries
