Regenerative 2030

Improve educational opportunities and wellbeing for vulnerable children and communities in Sri Lanka by supporting access to safe learning environments, essential resources and sustainable community development initiatives.

Across many parts of Sri Lanka, vulnerable children and families continue to face significant social and economic challenges that limit access to education, safe learning environments and opportunities to build brighter futures. Through local leadership and strong community partnerships, this project works to address these challenges by supporting education, child wellbeing and community development initiatives that create lasting, sustainable change. The organisation's broader vision is to restore and strengthen communities by investing in people, empowering local leaders and delivering practical solutions that respond to locally identified needs.

Funding from the World Expeditions Foundation will help expand these community-led initiatives, providing children with improved learning opportunities while strengthening the resilience of the wider community. By supporting locally driven programs that focus on education, wellbeing and sustainable development, the project aims to create long-term positive outcomes that extend well beyond immediate assistance. Every contribution helps equip children, families and communities with the resources and opportunities they need to thrive and build a more hopeful future.

Deliver free weekly English lessons to children in rural schools
Support transport for youth travelling to remote schools
Train over 100 young people to become community-based English teachers
Provide learning materials and resources for 1,500 children
Strengthen leadership, confidence, and employment pathways for young people

Outcomes

1,500 children receive free, weekly English education across 20+ schools

Over 100 young people trained as teachers, building confidence and leadership skills

15 trainee teachers receive advanced training and mentoring over 10 months

Improved English proficiency, school engagement, and academic performance

Stronger self-confidence, purpose, and employability among youth participants

Background

Sri Lanka has faced significant economic and social challenges in recent years, with many vulnerable families struggling to access quality education, essential services and opportunities for long-term development. Rising living costs, unemployment and the impacts of natural disasters have placed additional pressure on communities, particularly in rural and disadvantaged areas where children are at greater risk of missing out on education and support.

This project responds by working alongside local communities to strengthen education, improve child wellbeing and deliver practical, community-led development initiatives. By partnering with local leaders and investing in sustainable solutions rather than short-term aid, the project helps create safer learning environments, build resilience and provide children and families with the opportunities they need to thrive well into the future.
