Food and Drink on the Larapinta Trail

Cheese and fruit on the Larapinta Trail

What are my food options on the Larapinta Trail?

World Expeditions aims to provide high quality, interesting and nutritional meals for its guests. Where possible we will use fresh local produce. All our food is sourced from the best providores and carefully selected, stored and transported so as to maximise freshness and quality. Our guides have remarkable wilderness culinary skills and pride themselves on the variety, quality, nutritional levels and presentation of their meals and their ability to cater to a wide range of dietary requirements. Each guide is able to select their own menu for the destination with plenty of opportunity for special flourishes and tasty surprises.

There is often plenty of fresh fish and meat based main dishes and fresh salads. On most trips we re‑supply with fresh food every few days however some long and remote trips we may go several days before we can stock up of fresh food.

Example Menu

This menu is a guide only and the menu varies from trip to trip.

Breakfast: ranges from cooked to continental. Usually a selection of cereals, fruit, bread/toast and quality coffee and tea.

Lunch: depending on the trip, you may prepare your lunch such as wraps or sandwiches in camp before the days trekking. Or more usually we will have a picnic style lunch with a wide selection of bread rolls, wraps, deli‑meats, sandwich and salad ingredients to prepare a tasty lunch how you like it

Dinners: usually 2 or 3 courses. The main meal is usually a classic outback style meal such as grilled barramundi, camp‑oven roast, or perhaps tasty stir‑fry or pasta dish.

Snacks: there is always plenty of trail snacks available such as muesli bars and fresh fruit. In the evenings we often serve hors d’oeurves around the campfire while dinner is being prepared

Dietary Requirements

Please ensure you let us know your dietary preferences well in advance so we can prepare an appropriate menu. If we are informed of dietary requirements in advance (at least one month prior to your trip) we are able to cater for vegetarian diets and can assist with medically recommended diets (allergies and intolerance).

Drinks on The Larapinta Trail

You are welcome to bring a bottle of wine or a six pack of beer on our guided trips so you can relax and enjoy a glass of wine under the stars. The guides will bring a small quantity of your drinks to the campsite each night depending on how many the group request.

Drinks are to be pre-purchased prior to departure as guides cannot restock during the tour.

Every single aspect of this tour far exceeded our expectations. Our three guides worked well as a team - and providing a gluten & dairy free diet was never a problem. We were continually impressed with our guides' dedication to ensuring that everything was handled in an environmentally friendly manner. Unforgettable experience!Mick & Marie BaconQueensland, Australia

The food was of an amazingly high standard given the conditions. The staff had such energy to trek all day and then cook! They also had great subject knowledge and excellent first aid skills.Yvonne GreeNarrabundah ACT
